Feminism, Socialism, and Gender Consciousness in America, 1900-1915 Hall, Rebecca This thesis traces the history of radical U.S. feminists of the early 20th century, comparing Socialism and feminism in order to assess whether the Socialist movement presented a viable strategy for women’s emancipation. By drawing from first-hand accounts by women at the time, as well as secondary literature about feminism, Hall analyzes the reasons for the failure of the Socialist women’s movement, and further examines the impact of this failure on today’s feminism.
